Published by Edition Peters Duration: 7 minutes Strauss orginally wrote Voices of Spring for soprano and orchestra, before later on rewriting it for orchestra alone. Now Simon Fischer has adapted this masterpiece into a semi-virtuosic piece for violin and piano. To go from the original vocal line to playing it on the violin is naturally only a very short step, and the resulting violin part seems entirely violinistic as well as inevitable. The piece is full of Viennese charm and Kreisleresque turns. Indeed, it seems extraordinary that Kreisler did not make a transcription of Voices of Spring, since so many of the passages do sound like pure Kreisler when played on the violin. The only explanation must be that he simply ran out of time, but that had he had further years in which to work he must surely have written this piece himself.
