Sheet music
Duration: 7 minutes
Simon Fischer's adaptation of Tchaikovsky's Waltz is more than just a transcription. By borrowing from different parts and lines in the orchestra, the violin part emerges as an entirely new semi-virtuosic solo violin piece in its own right.
It is full of short staccato runs, fingered octaves (though you can play them 4-1 if you like), harmonics, fast arpeggios - and of course the famous theme itself that comes in different registers of the instrument - and it is very exciting and great fun to play.
A great end to a recital programme, or a perfect encore piece.
Difficulty level: UK Associated Board Grade 8. Harder than Kreisler Praeludium and Allegro; easier than Wieniawski Polonaises.
