Violin and piano, transcribed by Simon Fischer
Published by Edition Peters
Duration: 6 minutes
This beautiful, sorrowful and passionate melody works perfectly in Simon Fischer's new arrangement for violin and piano.
For many years, this movement was the encore played after every concert by the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields under Sir Neville Marriner. In its symphonic form the melody is played by the first violins throughout, so this arrangement is only a short step away from the original.
It is a wonderful addition to the repertoire of short pieces for recitals - there are not many slow, expressive pieces like this, the majority being of the fireworks type - and for teachers seeking suitable and original material for their students.
